This fight is all about money, not about healthcare. I am a nurse practitioner and an ardent supporter of ColoradoCare. As I canvas my neighborhood and knock only on Dems doors to ask where they stand regarding voting on the amendment and what questions they might have, the majority of people I talk to just don’t understand it, unless they have experienced a personal medical catastrophe. Or they focus on how much they are paying for healthcare this year but not what the cost maybe over the next 5 years. Even if CC does not pass, we can’t drop the conversation regarding a single payer system and must continue to educate people. That,in and of itself, will take a big corporate donor. Where is Warren Buffet when we need him?

I would agree with all but one thing: The contributions for ColoradoCareYes you list did not have an influence (that I saw) on gathering signatures to put this on the ballot. We were volunteers who believe in the idea that health care is a right, not a privilege. We are grateful to our donors who can give more than most of us. Don’t tarnish their good by implying they bought the signatures needed to place Amendment 69 on the ballot.

The fight for me as a small business owner is about requiring me to pay 6.67% on all employees payroll. Our employees get their healthcare either through their spouses or themselves. We reward by paying bonuses and with an additional 6.67% tax on all dollars we won’t we doing that which will hurt our employees. We survive on small margins and 6.67% additional tax will cost the amount of a part time employee for us. In addition, A69 would make this exempt from Tabor so the 10% total tax this years could increase to 20%, 30% or more! Small business can’t afford this.
